Wet weekend

Of course it's the weekend and of course it's raining. We had a wonderful storm come through early, early morning. One large BOOM woke the entire house up. Luckily Max was in his crate and didn't get too concerned. At issue was Momma dog and her herd. I think she thought we all should take shelter and was in the process of releasing the entire dozen from their pool and taking them to higher ground. I went in, put them all back in and told her to get her skinny butt into my bedroom and chill. 2 seconds later, puppies are back to sleep, Momma dog is in my bedroom snuggled to her brother and I'm slipping back into bed myself. Eghads, what a pain.

So with that note, puppies are in the process of moving to the study. Puppy pen is up, mats are down, litter box is in. Little cold today, so I think we will wait and move them tomorrow.

For now, here's a few photos to tide everyone over until we do some individual photos tomorrow.

Ok, so this isn't a puppy shot. It's Marg having herded the cat into the sun spot-ha, and now guarding it in jail. This would be the puppy area in the study, not all put together yet.

And now to puppies.....

Who me???

What about us?

Bored.....

FIGHT!!!!

Escape, I must escape!

Dirty Dozen update

All eyes and ears are confirmed open. Their noses work really well too. They smell human aka food, from ten paces.

Not as clean as I would like them to be, but Abbey's trying her best to keep up with 12 wee'rs and pee'rs. It's a full time job and we have to help on occasion.

I forsee the first escapee in the next 4-5 days which then means the whole clan moves to the puppy pen in the study where they can cause chaos on the whole dog household. Eddie can't wait!lator gators...

Paw It Forward

I'm finally catching up on stuff!!! Yea!!!

The Paw It Forward box will be heading out to Kim and the canine crew at River Bend!!! They guessed the closest to the Dirty Dozen number with 11.

Not sure how soon I will get it out, but hoping to send something to Russ, Music, Ella, Rambo, Shaker Baker and Duchess this week.

Dirty Dozen update

Sorry that I haven't been really good about photos. Please check out the website for some week 2 head shots.

You just can't get good shots with 12 nor the fact that every time you touch them they think FOOD! The drawback to bottle feeding.

Good news is that almost all of them have their eyes open, are up on their toes and motoring around well. We've actually stopped supplementing all but two and then only about once a day. They are really starting to look like puppies and not rats.

Abbey got her sutures out today. Doc said she looks awesome. Doc Meier's called Doc and asked if all 12 made it. She laughed and said, yes and looking very nice too. Something about being bottle feed around the clock and spoiled. When they get old enough, we'll take them in Doc Meier's clinic for a photo op.

Visitors start coming next weekend. It's going to be busy around here. I've got loads of kids lined up to come and play over the next two months, people interested in what a cardigan is and of course, prospect families. This guys will be bored the rest of the time.

Here's a shot for the time being. All fat and sleepy. Seems mom does not like my idea of blankets in the pool, she prefers the plain plastic bottom. Some of the kids do too. And yes, some where in there are 12, I swear!

Seriously?

I have a hole in the drywall next to my bed.

There's a drool/lick spot on my pillow.

A particular corner in the living room carpet is damp.

My dog has OCD. Go figure.

The latest eddition of Whole Dog Journal arrived at my doorstep this week. Well maybe last week and I just got around to reading it. The whole family is in attendance as we are watching Wipe Out. Great family activity, isn't it? Anyway, I start reading then stop. Then I start back at the beginning, reading it outloud. I think everyone in the room had the same light bulb go on at the exact same time, all swiviling our heads to look at a certain dog all at the same time. Fred.

Yes Fred has OCD. I have a lick spot in the drywall next to my bed where he sleeps at night. Kim will attest to rolling over in the middle of the night into a wet spot on the pillow where he's been laying and licking. Every night after dinner, he finds a corner in the living room and licks the carpet.

Reading further in to the article we all come to the conclusion that since he officially "retired" and changed his name to Farmer Fred that maybe that's where it started. A lack of, what, stress? Heehee, Fred hated to travel to the shows. Shook on the grooming table. Was ring sour. Really would rather be home then at the shows. So upon retirement he pretty much gets to do what he wants. Treks to the creek, horses to bark at, ducks to pester. Keeping the youngsters in line. You know, the grandpa life for him.

Suggested in the article where the following items....

Develop a routine. Got that. Everyone in my house is pattern trained and has an internal clock. If I'm late they let me know. They know where they go, where to eat, when to go out, etc.

Exercise. Seriously, have you not seen my yard? Agility equipment, birds, stock to bark at, GSD to chase and loads of running goes on.

Stimulation. He's got the world's record for emptying the Buster Cube. Hoarder of the treat filled Kongs. He's got big dogs, little dogs, running kids and what not to keep him occupied.

So what now?

We tried adding a nightly walk down the road. That went over oh so well. See my dogs are trained about certain things. First off the world drops off at the end of the driveway. David got to the cross roads with him and he went-um, can we go home now? I think I see oblivion. That really isn't going to work.

So he's coming out of retirement. We figured that he started this when he asked to stay home from the shows. I have no intent on attempting to get his GRCH. He's old, come on. But there is a kid that could always use another juniors dog. The Ms will have fun with a ring sour, old man, who helps himself off the table when the exam is done, fancies the ladies and gives the " I'm hear, what more do you want" look most of the time.

My dog has OCD, go figure.
