Creek Adventures

As many of you know, we live on a little acreage out in the middle of the black hole zone between three small towns. In addition to the area by the house and the barns, we have a great creek pasture. So without thinking, we trooped the kids down to creek for their first adventure.

Note-the three adult boys who usually go to the creek all on their own, were more then willing to tag along and show the kids how it's done.

So four puppies, Fred, Ed, and Moose, Meredith, David and myself. In all honesty, we were looking for large rocks for the new fire ring. We found two and had to go back to the barn after a series of events with the kids.

First, Eddie shows them how to walk in and lay flat in the deepest part of the creek crossing. Yeah that went well, and now I have not only wet but muddy dogs.

Next Grandpa Fred jumps the creek, puppies follow and well, didn't make it. Plop into the creek. So now I'm fishing out not one but two and then of course three and four follow suit just as soon as I come up the bank with one and two. Wouldn't have been so bad but they started swimming under the weeds that lay over the creek and it was hunt and peck trying to find them. Had to listen for the sound of the dog paddling.

Then it's the constant yelling at Fred and Moose to hang close as the puppies see them, book it down the trail and are right along for the ride.

I gave up after awhile and planted my butt on the bank. Only problem with that is that all the wet and muddy dogs run past me, only slowing down to shake 1/2 the creek out on me. So now I smell like the creek too.

Overall they totally enjoyed it. But next time, I'm only taking one!

Here's a few more photos-they learned not only about the creek but rolling in the good stuff too.

Later gators....

Oh, just TOO much fun for those 4! Bear is so lonely without Ransom, and Dreamy and Emmy only play so long with him and then they are over it. He's counting down the days until his cohort in crime is home.

I'm thankful they don't have a creek to roll in...they find enough smelly stuff in the back yard!

Hugs to all!

They all got a dunk in the wading pool upon returning to the yard. They were all so bushed that Dove crashed all night on my lap and the boys took up residence on my bed.

But they did have fun, now the chore is keeping them out of the pasture and creek!

I can't even let my three see the photos -- they would sign up to come live in Iowa -- with water and grass -- I didn't tell these City dogs about the ducks either.

What a great romp!
