Would a kindle fair as well?

Technology is great. At times. We are still on dial up here at home. I have a facebook account, but not the patience to use it here at home. Can you say slooooowwwww! Let’s see website, blog, yahoo, mp3 players, multiple digital cameras, video camera, got’em…but no blu ray, no smart phone, ipads, wifi or a working laptop in the house.

Debate has been about getting either an ipad or kindle. But of course, not for me. Nope, Mom prefers to deal with the real feel of a book. The Ms on the other hand, my book worm child. Who speed reads through 500 page novels like it’s a picture book. The thought of her being able to have access to a library that large with just the touch of a button really intrigues me. Though the constant problem we do have is getting her to put a book down long enough to get her chores or other tasks done, Tends to be a real hassle.

My only drawback is that she might miss the thrill of the chase as we explore Half-Price or Barnes and Nobles, SwapAPaperback or the other great used book stores in the area. Then again....

Would the kindle be able to withstand this? Poor library book got dropped on the way to into the house and well, dogs need reading material too! Cost: $10.

Later gators....

I love my kindle and take it everywhere I go (except the bathtub). It could be expensive in the hands of your daughter though! I still buy books too - because a lot of the time the book at Half Price or through the new & used sellers at Amazon is much cheaper. And too, sometimes it's nice to have that actual book. For instance, recently I paid $12.99 for the Kindle version of a new bestseller that was listed at $25.99 but reduced to $13.52 in hardcover. It wasn't the greatest book, but if I had purchased the hardcover version I could have passed it along to a friend or donated it to the library. One nice thing is that there are a lot of free titles available, so your daughter could easily read her way through all the classics without spending a dime (except for the price of the Kindle, of course).

Oh my, a child after my own heart. When I was a kid, the only sport I "played" was library. You know, where you talk the librarian out of more than the juvenile book limit because otherwise you have to come back way too soon, long before the due date? Love my Nook. Spend too much at Barnes & Noble, but not as much as if I had to buy more book shelves. Plus, it dials up on the cell phone network for free, no data plan required. Would not withstand dogs reading, however.

Love, love, love my Kindle. It's an older one (V2 I think)...but I've repurchased many of my favorites and have about 100 books just in my free "classics" folder. I love real books, don't get me wrong, but I speed read and this way don't have to carry multiple on the plane or to work or....anywhere. I have somewhere over 300 books on the kindle now plus subscriptions to Smithsonian, National Geographic and Writer's Magazine. Wish my horse/dog magazines were there :(

Also like my kindle for reading far better than the tablet, after staring at computers all day the kindle is much more like reading a book. Easier on the eyes. Haven't compared ink quality to my friends Nook yet but either was easier than backlit. Can't wait for Kindle to start the library loaner program that I hear is coming (unless I missed it).

Thanks guys!!! Christmas is coming so it's either gift certificates for the book stores or a Kindle. Figure the Kindle would be great at the shows where she doesn't have to lug the bag o'books around.

Now if I can just keep it out of the hands of the dogs!
