It's official!

Summer is hear. Talking with Kim this last weekend and hearing that Rosario was eating lightening bugs-ewww, I kept watching out the window to see some up here. Last night about 11ish, I saw my first one buzz by the bedroom window! Add to that the following plant is now in full flower(one of my all time favorite plants) and yes it's officiall summer in Iowa. Granted, it's a little chilly but hey, no need for wadders.

Later gators...

Cindy, what kind of plant is that? I like it and would love to find some.

It's not just a plant--it's a TREE! This is the flower of the northern catalupa. It's a huge tree that has those orchid like flowers this time of year. Large heart shaped green leaves, long seed pods and crappy fall color(only down fall). I love the look of the mature ones and we are hunting up a nursery to get 3-4 of them to plant this year.
Right now all the catalupas are blooming and it's a heavenly sight.

I knew it looked familiar. I second you enthusiasm for those blossoms. We had them in Kenosha, and when they bloomed it was heavenly. I wish I had one here. BUT......summer? I think I will wait a bit on that one.
Enjoy!

Yes indeed it is summer in Iowa! Turns out Ruff Ruff eats the lightening bugs when he gets mad that he can't herd them all together.

An upgrade from the worms the 4 legged kids were consuming during Nationals? I think I'll pass on all the creepy crawly delicacies!

Forgot about that-and yes, that was really gross. Muddy puppies digging and then playing tug of war with the worms-ewwwwww!
